Why Train at PhysXtreme?

We’ve heard plenty of complaints from people such as:

  • I hate wasting my money on gym memberships that I hardly use.
  • I’ve heard that, to get good results, you need a personal trainer two to three times per week, but it’s so expensive.
  • I’m often bored just going to the gym to do cardio or weights.
  • I never know what kind of program to follow.
  • I’m not feeling as motivated to train anymore.
  • There’s so much conflicting information about how to train and eat, I don’t know what to believe.
  • I get pain in my back, knees, and/or other places when I train.
  • I can’t seem to lose body fat no matter what I do.
  • I’ve hit a plateau and am not seeing results anymore.

Fortunately, at the PhysXtreme gym in Ottawa and Gatineau, the unique combination of our programs, coaches, facility, and our incredible community, allow our members to get amazing results despite having some of all of these concerns before they’ve started with us.

The truth is, you can’t buy a membership at PhysXtreme and not use it because we won’t let you slack, and if we can’t motivate you to stay on track with the program we will terminate your membership and stop taking your money. Training here is a lot less expensive than hiring a personal trainer at some other gym. It costs as little as $10 per session and you’ll get even better results in our groups than with a one-on-one trainer, not to mention you’ll never get bored since our workouts are challenging and fun, and they are always changing.

If your concern is that you don’t know what programs are best for you, you can rest assured that we are here to help. Our programs are made to help you get stronger, leaner, faster, have better conditioning, and are universally scalable to suit any level of fitness. What’s more is that all our coaches are educated, experienced, and ready to help you every step of the way. We also have a registered physiotherapist – one of the top physiotherapists for many of Canada’s national sports teams, nonetheless – on staff that can assess and treat all sorts of injuries and pain.

Like we said, you don’t have to worry about getting bored, unmotivated or hitting a plateau. Our experienced coaches can help you move past all of that with subtle changes to your programming or nutrition. Getting the results you want is not complicated, but it does take hard work!

FAQ

How do your memberships work?

Just like any regular membership. You can sign up any time and get started immediately. We have a great low-cost 6-week intro program that helps people get their feet wet and make the decision about whether or not to commit to a longer membership much easier. If you’re ready now, click here.

Can I try a workout before buying a membership?

Yes, absolutely. It’s a good idea to come in for a trial workout before you join just to make sure it’s a good fit. If you don’t have previous CrossFit experience, you will need to take a series of four fundamentals classes before you can do your trial workout. We have a number of low-cost intro memberships that each start with the four fundamentals classes, and then allow you to take us for a test-drive and evaluate all our programs before you commit to anything long-term. You can set up a trial workout or get one of our low-cost intro memberships by clicking here.

I’m not in great shape; will your classes be too difficult for me?

All of our programs are universally scalable. This means, whatever your starting point, we can give you a workout that’s perfectly suited to your current fitness and skill level. Each exercise has technical progressions and regressions that allow us to tailor the movement specifically to you, and if for some reason you simply cannot do a particular exercise, we have hundreds of suitable alternatives so that you can safely train and make progress towards your goals. Everyone moves at his or her own skill and fitness level in our classes.

I have a very busy life and I need my workouts to be very effective yet not take up too much time. Could CrossFit be what I’m looking for?

Yes, very likely. CrossFit is probably your best bang for the buck. Every workout starts with a thorough 15-minute warm-up, followed by a 15- to 20-minute strength or technical practice round, and finishes up with a 5 to 25-minute conditioning WOD (Workout Of the Day). The workout is already prepared when you arrive, you’ll have a coach to guide you safely through the entire workout, and you’ll benefit from our awesome PhysXtreme CrossFit Chaos 819 community that’s in the class with you, training with you, and encouraging you to do your best.

I’m a little shy and I’m not sure I’ll like group training.

That’s the beauty of group training. You’re training with others, many of whom started in the exact same position as you. As you get to know the other people in your group, it will give you strength knowing that they too had similar fears, but they were able to overcome their fears to achieve great things. The truth is that ninety-nine percent of the population will get better results in a group-training environment. There are many factors at play (group energy, motivation, and improved learning). For those who really do need individual attention, we can set you up with one of our personal trainers.

Program design and technical coaching are important in both group and one-on-one settings, but with one-on-one, far too many people over-rely on their trainer for everything. In the end, it can almost be a hand-holding situation in which the client does not participate enough in their own training and progress (i.e. they don’t think much about what they’re doing, and how they’re doing it; rather, they let their trainer just tell them everything). In a group setting, you will learn how to set up your own weights, what weights you should be lifting for the various exercises, and you will become responsible for your own progress as nobody will be holding your hand.

What sets you apart from other CrossFit/Bootcamp/Kettlebell programs?

There are four main things that set PhysXtreme apart from other fitness programs: our programs, coaches, facility, and our community. There is simply no other fitness program that delivers a training experience like PhysXtreme. But don’t just take our word for it; take our [6-Week Test Drive] and see for yourself. Experiencing is believing!

Why are your memberships more expensive than at other gyms?

Most gym memberships only give you access to the gym. If you actually want to reach your goals, you will likely need to hire a personal trainer, which can cost you between $40-$100 per hour depending on their qualifications and experience. Getting good results usually requires 2-3 sessions a week with your trainer. Add that to the membership price and compare it again to one of our memberships and you’ll soon realize that, for the quality of coaching provided, the atmosphere, and the programming, you simply cannot find a better value anywhere.

Are your programs safe?

No matter what program you follow, it is only as safe as its administration. Our coaches are all certified and/or have extensive personal lifting and coaching experience. All of our programs have suitable exercise and movement regressions to allow for safe execution and subsequent progression.

What happens if I am sick or go on vacation? Can I freeze my membership?

At PhysXtreme, we understand that life has a way of throwing you off sometimes and so yes, it is possible to hold your membership.

Free membership hold requests are limited to once per calendar year, for 30 (minimum), 60, or 90 (maximum) days. Additional holds will be billed at 50% the monthly membership fee.

For membership holds related to an injury, a doctor’s note will be required to place memberships on hold without a charge. ($5/mo minimum system hold charge still applies)

The doctor’s note must state:

  • The nature of the injury
  • What treatment should be undertaken
  • Typical expected time for return to gradual training

Any membership hold request without a doctor’s note containing the requested information will be denied.

For all membership hold requests please visit the membership hold page.

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel your membership at any point with 30 days written notice. Any regular payments scheduled during the 30 days will process as usual as your cancellation fees. For more information, please visit our Terms & Conditions section.

Can I make up missed classes?

For members with 2- and 3-times-per-week memberships, any missed classes can be made up within the calendar month. No missed classes may be carried over to the next month.

Are you closed on Holidays? And can we make up any missed classes that fall on holidays?

All regular classes are cancelled on Statutory, National (Federal), and Quebec holidays. However, subject to instructor availability, we will run a 90-minute hybrid CrossFit & Bootcamp class and/or a Kettlebell class. A regular drop-in fee of $20 applies to any non-members. Details will be posted the week before the holiday to our Facebook Group and will be sent to all athletes via email.
