Each of our coaches here at PhysXtreme play a vital role in making up the best CrossFit gym team in the city. They are extremely dedicated to their sport and the gym plays a huge part in their lives. Take a moment to read these brief bios and you’ll start to see what we mean. And by all means, don’t be afraid to stop by and say Hi!

“My passion for weightlifting started as a young teenager and continued through high school where I sought to increase my strength and size in order to improve my athletic abilities. However, it wasn’t long before my passion for lifting weights and learning about strength training, physiology, and nutrition, clouded my thirst for other sports.”

After studying Engineering in University for three years, Shane realized he needed to follow his passion and seek a career as a personal trainer.

Though he began with only private clients, it didn’t take long for people to recognize Shane’s talent for coaching and helping people transform their physique. He quickly became the go-to trainer for bodybuilders and, later, fitness and figure competitors who were seeking someone to coach them through training and nutrition in preparation for competitions.

During his years as a one-on-one trainer, Shane opened two private training studios which required him to employ an increasing number of additional trainers to help him manage a growing demand. Finally, Shane created an outdoor boot camp, which moved and eventually became PhysXtreme!

Shane has appeared on Rogers Daytime and The New RO, where he provided insight on training and nutrition to viewers everywhere. He also worked as a regional and provincial-level judge for bodybuilding, figure, and fitness competitions sanctioned by the Ontario Physique Association, from 1994 to 2011. In 2006, Shane won the Ottawa’s Best Personal Trainer award.

“When we lift something heavy, we instinctively use more than just arms; we integrate muscle chains, brace through the torso, and lift with the whole body. So why should we exercise any differently? A tool as simple as a kettlebell works the complex muscle chains within the human body, yielding results that make you stronger, faster, and better.”

Dave has over 22 years of experience in martial arts and has practiced yoga for over 15 years. His varied background has given him an acute awareness of how to train the body as one functional unit. He is passionate about teaching every individual the skills needed for movement of the kettlebell and the body.

Dave was introduced to kettlebells spur-of-the-moment and he promptly realized this simple tool was going to kick his butt! Since then, Dave has become an Agatsu Kettlebell Instructor with Shawn Mozen and a Maxwell Kettlebell System Trainer, certified by Steve Maxwell.

Dave is always seeking improvement and new knowledge to complement his kettlebell program such as:

  • Indian Clubs and Maces
  • Joint mobility and flexibility
  • Handstands and circus aerial strength
  • Esoteric practices of breath control

As an instructor, Dave stresses the importance of structure and mobility while building strength, power, endurance and coordination. His charisma, enthusiasm, and high-energy classes will have you addicted to this incredibly versatile training tool.

“I have been coaching Crossfit since 2015. In this time have received the qualifications needed to be the best coach possible and everyday I try to improve on this. My specialties are olympic weightlifting and basic gymnastics which are the center of what we try to perfect at Crossfit 819. My main objective is to teach you something new at every class, and at the same time improve your physical capacities.”

Simon grew up in Gatineau. While he played hockey for most of his childhood, he was always trying something new. From baseball, soccer, golf, basketball (even though he’s a tall midget), he did it all! He did his first CrossFit class September 20th, 2012 and since then, kept coming back. He quickly got curious about every little thing he could learn from every field expert to complete his arsenal and perfect all the movements there was to learn. Now as the head coach at CrossFit 819, he’s passing on this knowledge to you through coaching and programming!

“Before doing CrossFit I was always working out in a gym. I have no athletic background besides playing youth and high-school-level sports like judo, soccer, and basketball. I’ve been doing weight training for years now, but I really fell in love when I started CrossFit in early October of 2011, and I have been doing it ever since.”

Mylene moved to Gatineau from Gaspe in September 2011. A full-time social worker, Mylene participated in her first CrossFit class in October 2011 and quickly became addicted to the sport.
She completed her level one certification and started coaching in June 2012. Mylene’s upbeat, energetic and positive attitude quickly made her a hit with the athletes in the CrossFit community.
Motivated and passionate, she will push you to achieve your health goals as an athlete whether beginner or advanced.

“I tried every sport before I found my true passion: CrossFit.”

Kid’s athletic background comes from 12 years of competitive soccer combined with years of track and field, basketball, volleyball, tennis, ping-pong, hockey, and bodybuilding. In July 2014 he found his true calling when he tried CrossFit for the first time. Since then, the sport has allowed him to infiltrate the amazing CrossFit community and make new friends. Kid became so passionate about it that, after only six months, he decided to do his CrossFit Level 1 certification. Without looking back, he started coaching right away and has gone on to coach hundreds of athletes.

Since he has had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of health professionals such as chiropractors, massage therapists, physiotherapists, and kinesiologists, he’s learnt a lot along the way and it has inspired him to get a degree in human kinetics.

At any given time, you’re likely to find him at the box since he trains multiple hours a day, working away at his goal to win the CrossFit Games. When you see him, don’t hesitate to talk to ask him for advice. He’s energetic, passionate, and completely dedicated to his own CrossFit development as well as the development of those around him.

“I tried every sport before I found my true passion: CrossFit.”

“I train for the enjoyment of the CrossFit community. The gym is a passion of mine and holds a big place in my life, and it’s a vital part of my physical and mental health.”

Corinne’s career debuted around the age of 14, when she started practicing middle-distance running and won multiple provincial competitions. She then joined the sports-study program in soccer and volleyball. She excelled in soccer and participated in many provincial competitions before joining the AAA college team in her first year of cégep.

She then moved on to indoor training and took international training and nutrition courses with Coach-Export. She participated in powerlifting competitions, which ultimately helped her perfect her training methods. She fell in love with CrossFit when she had the chance to train with top-level coaches all over Québec in 2013.  Corinne significantly improved both her personal weightlifting and coaching skills after  attending a hands-on weekend weightlifting seminar with Pierre Roy, one of Canada’s best Olympic Weightlifting coaches.

“Learning to move our bodies in this world is a process that is filled with obstacles. From the day we first lift our head and drop it back down, to our first steps followed by a fall, we experience all emotion, yet are driven by the spirit to strive for more. We learn to walk, jump, squat, lunge, twist, push, pull, transfer our weight, run, sequence, coordinate, dance, and play. Somewhere down the line we also learn bad habits and begin to develop patterns that eventually leads us to poor posture, reduced mobility, and physical pain. Yoga and Conscious Movement helps us identify those patterns. Concentration and mental focus can help us change them.”

Phillippe teaches our Yoga and Mobility class tailored to individual needs of stability and mobility in movement. Exploring the body through movement and diverse mobility techniques and practices helps us identify and correct bad movement patterns and/or blind spots, prevent injuries, and heal.
